Experience the Process

You’d think that all spirits, whether gin, rum or whiskey, are basically made the same way, right? Not exactly. Although it’s true that each of these styles of alcohol undergoes similar processes, the details behind every bottle are a bit different.

How are spirits made? The answer lies in distillation. This process distinguishes spirits from beer, wine, and other types of non-distilled alcoholic beverages. In essence, alcoholic drinks can be categorized into two groups: fermented (non-distilled) and fermented (distilled) beverages. Examples of non-distilled, fermented drinks include beer, hard cider, mead, saké, and wine. In contrast, distilled alcoholic beverages encompass brandy, gin, rum, vodka, and whiskey. At Leather and Oak Spirits we focus on the distilled alcoholic beverages.
